Let’s talk about Disney World FastPass+. The fast pass system has changed quite drastically over the past several years. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about fast passes for 2019! What are they? How do you get them? How do you use them? I’ve got answers to all these questions and more.
What is FastPass+ (sometimes know as FastPass or FP)?
FastPass+ is Disney’s digital ride reservation system. Guest visiting the WDW resort can reserve a virtual spot in line for up to three attractions per day in a single park. This digital reservation system has replaced the paper fast pass tickets once available inside the parks.
Your FastPasses will be reserved, stored and managed inside your My Disney Experience app and are linked to either your Magic Band or RIFD Plastic Ticket.
What does FastPass+ cost?
FastPass plus is a complimentary service included with your park admission. There are no required additional fees to use this service.
How do you get FastPasses?
FastPasses are reserved via the My Disney Experience app. There are two reservation windows based on your travel plans:
- Guest staying at a WDW resort hotel or Disney Swan and Dolphin can make FastPass reservations up to 60 days prior to their check in day and can reserve for the length of their stay.
- Guest staying off Disney property may make FastPass reservations 30 days in advance and on a day by day basis. This means you have to make your fast pass reservations one day at a time.
Are there any FastPass restrictions?
I’m sure you can imagine the answer is YES. You may initially reserve 3 FastPasses in a single park for each day of your stay. Once you have used all three of your fast passes for the day, you can reserve additional single FastPasses as available.
There is a tiered fastPass system for Epcot, Animal Kingdom & Disney Studios allowing you only one FastPass from tier one and two FastPasses from tier 2.
When reserving your FastPasses you are choosing a 1 hour window to arrive for your ride. Keep in mind, you can not have FastPasses that overlap in times.
How do you use FastPasses?
Your FastPass reservations are housed in your My Disney Experience app. This app is digitally connected to your magic bands or plastic RFID ticket. When you arrive for your FastPass, just tap your magic band or ticket at the FastPass entrance to be admitted to the line.
What if I am late?
FastPasses are intended for use during the reservation time block. If you are a couple minutes late, entry is at the cast member’s discretion.
Do I have to have a magic band?
Magic bands are not required to use the FastPass+ system. When you stay at a Disney resort, you will be sent magic bands or have them issued at check in. Guests staying off property will receive RFID cards for their tickets. The readers will also recognize these RFID cards for FastPass+.
Where can I get a Magic Band?
As mentioned above, resort guests will be given a solid colored Magic Band for their stay. If you are staying off property or would like a specialty Magic Band, they are available throughout Walt Disney World starting at $12.95 or online.
